Tracking Tuesday: 13th January 2026

Tracking Tuesday Summary: Key Innovations

Welcome to this week’s edition of Tracking Tuesday. As we settle into 2026, the industry is moving from “experimental AI” to “operational AI,” with real-time visibility becoming the bedrock of global trade.

This week, we cover massive surges in surveillance tech, new award-winning IoT platforms, and the rise of “Connected Intelligence.”

🛰️ Real-Time Package Monitoring

The industry is shifting from simple “track and trace” to Location Intelligence. This involves layering geospatial data (weather, traffic, and port congestion) to predict delays before they happen.

❄️ Cold Chain Tracking

Food safety and pharmaceutical integrity are under the microscope as new regulations (like FSMA 204) take full effect.

💎 High-Value Shipment Tracking

Security and “Total Value” are the primary drivers for 2026, as cyberattacks on logistics are projected to double this year.

🌌 Idea for the Future: “The Quantum Scent”

The Concept: Integrating Nano-Olfactory Sensors into standard tracking labels. While we currently track temperature and tilt, we don’t track “chemical signatures.” A “Quantum Scent” sensor would detect the molecular off-gassing associated with early-stage fruit spoilage, chemical leaks, or even the specific pheromones of invasive pests inside a sealed container. These sensors would trigger an automatic “ventilation or redirection” protocol via the ship’s internal network, preventing a single bad pallet from ruining an entire $10M shipment.

🚀 New! Planning, Implementation & Best Practices for 2026

Based on 20+ years experience of implementing 100s of GPS tracking projects, we have written this easy-to-read best practice guide and checklist to help you plan and implement GPS tracking and realtime visibility solutions.

This is a comprehensive framework for evaluating, selecting, and implementing GPS tracking and supply chain visibility solutions across pharmaceuticals, cold chain logistics, manufacturing, and returnable asset management.
